Merry Christmas

Wow, can I just say that this year has FLOWN by! I'm not even sure where to begin since the months are all squished together!

I'll do a little calendar and get it all together and send an email out to everyone.

In the meantime, have a wonderful Merry Christmas and remember who you are worshiping this time of year even more so than before.

Love,

Nathan & Karen Wicke

True trophy story

The Gila valley temple (AZ) is being constructed. Time for placing the angel Moroni statue atop the temple had come. Many gathered to watch. Two were a father and his little son. When the golden Moroni was being lifted out of the wooden crate by the giant crane, the little boy looked at his father and exclaimed, "Wow, who won that trophy!"

General Conference

I've loved General Conference for a many number of years.
12 years ago, it was very important to me as I had made a drastic change in my life, had just gone to the temple 11 months before, turned in mission papers and was able to sing in the April 1997 Saturday afternoon session of conference. A couple of years ago, we were able to watch conference at the JSMB in SLC and feel the spirit there while we sustained a new prophet. This was awesome for me because I was now married and able to be there with someone who loves the prophet, the Lord and the gospel as much as I do and in his own special way.

This year, I have the awesome privilege to take Cherry, our Chinese exchange student to SLC for conference and enjoy the spirit with her there. We are staying with friends and will be hanging out with them all weekend long. I'm so excited for her and can't wait to share this weekend with her so that she can see why we go to church, why we do what we do and what we don't do as a family and individuals.

Of course, we'll do the entire Temple Square Experience and we'll take her to the mountains and go do a little bit of hiking. We'll be staying with a friend who lives right down in the heart of the the city.

I can't wait! I'm so excited. Pictures will follow as we take them and when I return. They probably won't be posted right away, but they will be eventually!

Make sure to watch conference.

Think before you speak....

This was emailed to me today from a friend.

Some are hilarious!

Here are six reasons why you should think
before you speak -the last one is great!
Have you ever spoken and wished that
you could immediately take the words back...
Here are the Testimonials of a few people who did....
FIRST TESTIMONY:
I walked into a hair salon with my husband and three kids in tow and asked loudly,
'How much do you charge for a shampoo and a blow job?' I turned around and walked back out and never went back
My husband didn't say a word...he knew better.
SECOND TESTIMONY:
I was at the golf store comparing different kinds of golf balls. I was unhappy with the women's type I had been using. After browsing for several minutes, I was approached by one of the good-looking gentlemen who works at the store.
He asked if he could help me.
Without thinking, I looked at him and said, 'I think I like playing with men's balls'
THIRD TESTIMONY:
My sister and I were at the mall and
passed by a store that sold a variety of candy and nuts. As we were looking at the display case, the boy behind the counter asked if we needed any help. I replied, 'No, I'm just looking at your nuts.'
My sister started to laugh hysterically.
The boy grinned, and I turned beet-red and walked away.
To this day, my sister has never let me forget.
FOURTH TESTIMONY :
While in line at the bank one afternoon,
my toddler decided to release
some pent-up energy and ran amok.
I was finally able to grab hold of
her after receiving looks of disgust and annoyance from other patrons.
I told her that if she did not start behaving 'right now' she would be punished.
To my horror, she looked me in the eye and said in a voice just as threatening,
'If you don' t let me g o right now, I will tell Grandma that I saw you kissing Daddy's pee-pee last night!'
The silence was deafening after this enlightening exchange.
Even the tellers stopped what they were doing. I mustered up the last of my dignity and walked out of the bank with my daughter in tow.
The last thing I heard when the door closed behind me, were screams of laughter.
FIFTH TESTIMONY:
Have you ever asked your child a question too many times?
My three-year-old son had a lot of problems with potty training and I was on him constantly. One day we stopped at Taco Bell for a quick lunch, in between errands It was very busy, with a full dining room. While enjoying my taco,
I smelled something funny, so of course I checked my seven-month-old daughter, she was clean.
The realized that Danny had not asked to go potty in a while.
I asked him if he needed to go,and he said 'No' ..
I kept thinking 'Oh Lord, that child has had an accident, and I don't have any clothes with me.'
Then I said, 'Danny, are you SURE you didn't have an accident?'
'No,' he replied.
I just KNEW that he must have had an accident, because the smell was getting worse. Soooooo, I asked one more time, 'Danny did you have an accident ? This time he jumped up, yanked down his pants, bent over, spread his cheeks and yelled 'SEE MOM, IT'S JUST FARTS!!'
While 30 people nearly choked to death on their tacos laughing,
he calmly pulled up his pants and sat down.
An old couple made me feel better, thanking me for the best laugh they'd ever had!
LAST BUT NOT LEAST TESTIMONY:
This had most of the state of Michigan laughing for 2 days and a very embarrassed female news anchor who will, in the future, likely think before she speaks.. What happens when you predict snow but don't get any! We had a female news anchor that, the day after it was supposed to have snowed and didn't,
turned to the weatherman and asked:
'So Bob, where's that 8 inches you
promised me last night?'
Not only did HE have to leave the set, but half the crew did too they were laughing so hard!

Think before you speak....

Wanna Good Laugh

OK, I am telling everyone right now that I am not the one to cut any ones hair. First of all, I plead the 5th and will not say anymore. So, without further words, take a look at the below pictures of my poor Kale, new nickname, Patchwork!
Please remind me every time you see me that you will NEVER let me cut your hair or your pets!
Do I need say more. Nathan just gave up and said that there was nothing else he could do since the blades of the clippers are damaged from over use!! Over use, right, but I know what he is saying. Before I take him anywhere we'll let his hair grow a little longer so people don't ask why he looks so stupid.
This was done Saturday night about 9 PM outside, can you say, blind Karen, what the heck?

His cute little face is the only thing that looks normal and didn't change. We clipped his whiskers and eyelashes but he looks just as beautiful!

Every time I look at him, I apologize to him for making him look so dumb :o)

A few moments

I have a few minutes to write something if I can think of something to say.
I just read through my sister and brother in laws blogs and laughed and then cried. What great people they are.

OK, I just had to put this aside and work a little bit, which is fine, it'll benefit me more to get a raise this next month to work than do the blog! Imagine that...work, money, smiles, blogs!

Here is something funny for one to think about. I don't take many vacation days. In fact, right now I still have over 40+ hrs that I can use for a vacation and that time is getting ready to roll over to sick time on 1-September and then I'll be allotted 160 hrs of vacation time for this next year plus 76 hrs of sick time and then sick time keeps growing because I won't use it. Its great. At least I have it just in case there is a huge emergency. Yeah, right! Not only that but Nathan informed me that his insurance is completely covered by the school district which is fabulous so he can use our "main" insurance and then use what he is covered under and there is no additional costs! What a blessing that is!

Now if I could just buy a house again.

Anyways, thought I'd write it before I forgot it.

Have a good day. I'm going to have to go back to blogging every Sunday night, I've just been so tired and so lazy that as the reader, you can tell that I haven't done it in months.

See ya later.

2 years strong and growing

Oh yeah, Nathan and I are celebrating our 2 year anniversary this Monday.
Wow what a wonderful time it has been. We've been through thick and thin, we've been there done that, what ever that was and where ever there was.

Its been fabulous so I had to change the design of my blog this morning too just to remind myself that this is totally real.

The Lord has certainly blessed us and via our desires to follow the Savior, he will continue to bless us. We love our Heavenly Father and our Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

Slackin'

I've been slacking for the past few months on my board to keep people updated about this side of the Wicke/Nihipali clan. We've been extremely busy. Nathan is finishing up his masters program and only has 2 classes left.......can we get a YAHOO! Graduation is in November and so is the big celebration. He loves his position at the charter school that my uncle owns and operates and is learning tons and is enjoying everything that he does there. I'm so glad that he finally found something that he really enjoys and is able to do because of things that he has learned from his program. It is awesome that he is able to apply school right into his work right away because he can see the benefits of it all and reap the blessings.

We inherited an exchange student from China. She is hilarious, only 15 and a joy to have in the house. She enjoys school (which is a private catholic school) and loves going to young womans (which is ironic because she says that she thinks everyone at church is so nice and friendly and she hasn't said that about school yet, hhhhmmmm, is there is a real difference? Yes). Her name is Shiqi Li but we call her Cherry. She'll be here all school year so we'll be keeping her busy.

My busy season at work has ended, thank goodness. Now it will be very slow and it'll give me the next few months to put things together at work to build my business for next spring and summer. My sick time will more than double starting 1 Sept because I have tons of vacation time that I didn't use and it will roll over and then I'll have 160 hours of vacation time given to me that again I'll probably not use forever so Nathan is going to have to pull me away from work and take me somewhere.

With Cherry being here we want to take her to all kinds of places. With us knowing that Landon Haymore is in San Diego now, we'll have to buddy up with him and go out and visit. We're also wanting to go to Rocky Point for a day or two and visit there too. I know that we'll end up at the Grand Canyon some time and even probably the 4-Corners/Mesa Verde National Park and Lake Powell. I love those areas and they are so beautiful.

I think Nathan also said something about taking Cherry skiing up in Utah and taking her to see snow and temple square so I can tell ya now that we'll be going that direction sometime this winter.

We love the ward we are in and haven't been given a calling yet, which is fine, we are barely getting things settled here with Cherry being added to our family and with the job things finally settling down.

I need to close for now so that I can clean my house. It is really dirty.

Love everyone,

Karen

Family Memories

This is a picture that is priceless that I'll never forget.

This was taken up at Timpanogas (spelling is probably wrong, oh well, you'll figure it out) Lodge up at Provo Canyon right outside of Provo. What a beautiful place.

This is the Haymore side of the family. This side belongs to the family of Dot Wicke, 1 of 14 children of the Haymores. As you can tell, the family is quite large and then 7 of the children and their families were also there. (The Wicke children that is).

It was fabulous.

Last Few Months

OK family, friends and anyone else who follows along, yes, I have been a slacker with the blog because we have had a million things happening in one of the Wicke homes here in Arizona.

Lets see, from the last post in May through now, Nathan finished 3 other classes and has 3 more to go. He is currently working with Excalibur & Avalon Charter Schools under the direction of my uncle and aunt Jeff and Carol Parker, which is great. It will give Nathan tons of confidence and tons of experience. He is the new Title I Director and part time teacher for Excalibur.

Nathan now sees the light for graduation in November with his MAED/CI degree. He is so excited and can't believe it that he actually did it. I am so happy for him and can't wait for graduation day and for him to turn in his last assignment! His last assignment will be turned on on 12/03/2009. Graduation is 11/14/2009 so if anyone is in town, please feel free to join us.

Karen is slammed busy at work. This is my Christmas like the Christmas season is for Wal-Mart so I am very tired and work a lot of OT and LONG hours. This will all end the end of August. I am still maintaining my #1 spot at the top of the stack ranking at work under the direction of my Heavenly Father and a fantastic management team. I try to motivate my team but it seems like only a few of them care so I only focus in on them. I'm not going to waste my time on those that don't care. I go to the corporate gym here at work so I don't waste time and money getting to the gym so it is nice that it is in the same building.

We have moved from west Phoenix to east Mesa. Our house is double the size it was in Phoenix. We did that on purpose so that we could host an exchange student and have Nathan be closer to work. We have the girl and so now we are just waiting on the approval from Skyline High School in Mesa to say YES. We told them that she is willing to pay $9K for the year...so you'd think that they'd jump all over it and well, they are dragging their feet. We took the size of the house in place of the pool. The funny thing about the pool too, is that after we kind of figure out how to work it and make sure that it is awesome and perfect to swim in, ah, we move. Well now, we don't even get to use it. Oh well, now that we are closer to family that has a pool we just use theirs!

We simply did the move because it would have taken Nathan roughly an hour to get to work and almost 2 to get home if we stayed on the west side. We now live 12 minutes from the school and well for me, the drive is longer but you know, in the morning it hasn't been to bad and in the evening it isn't bad at all because I go to the gym and I leave right in the middle of traffic so people have already left or aren't out of their office parking lots yet so its all good.

Yes, we had to give up the ward that we were in and had to give up nursery. We have been told that the kids are crying and that they won't go to nursery and tell mom or dad to leave because we aren't there anymore. We loved our little kids, we loved that they loved coming to nursery, we even loved all the crying they did so they'll be missed. The funny thing is, we are excited for the new ward. There are tons of YOUTH, which the other ward didn't have at all. The primary is large still and right now from what we can tell, all of the callings are taken!! Yahoo, so Nathan can focus on work and his classes and I can just get through the summer.

Oh, this is funny. Kale is howling in the morning when mom (I) leave for work so it has woken up Nathan. He doesn't like to be left in this big home alone sooooo, he cries for mom. It is so hilarious. You'd think that a dog wouldn't get so attached. It is to hot to leave him outside so Nathan comes home for lunch and lets him out while he is there. Kale can't wait to go for a walk when I get home at night either...he is bouncing off the walls. It is so stinkin' funny.

Anyways, my birthday was the 4th and Thanks goes to everyone who made it known to me that I am now a year closer to 40...thanks bunches! We went and spent time with Carol, Jeff, Beckah, Rachel, Danny and Dalyn, Kelly, Paul, Mark and Lizetta up in Heber at the Parker Cabin. It was a blast and we all had a grand time. I took 2 pictures while we were up there so I'll attach those later. I keep forgetting I have them. All of the families were there too.

We took a family picture on the 10th and sent the link to people to view them. If you didn't get it I'm sorry so email me or respond here and I'll send it again.

We are leaving for Utah next Wednesday 07/22 and will be driving up with Darwin and Collette and will be returning on 07/26. Dots family reunion is HUGE so it is up in Provo at some place near the "Y", I can't remember exactly. Everyone else knows where it is.

Lets see, what else has happened? No kids yet so stop asking for those who are overly concerned. When God decides to send one we'll take it, but until then, we're not dying. We are just barely trying to hold on to each other and not fall over since we have been extremely slammed and busy with Nathan finishing his program and school and finally getting a steady job. Everything has its season and it is ALL on Gods time table. I've had to learn that myself, it has NOTHING to do with me.

Anyways, I have to finally get back to work. I've been slacking for the past 45 minutes to get this written and updated. Hope everyone is happy and that they realize that Heavenly Father loves each one of you and that he is completely aware of your needs, wants, desires, passions and will bless you all according to what he sees fit for you at this time in your life.

Be good and God bless.

Love,
Karen & Nathan

Most Exciting Miracle Posted:

It was on 5 April 1829 that Oliver Cowdery arrived at the Smith home. Now you can see the hand of the Lord in preparing this work to go forward. Having been hired to teach school in the Manchester township in New York, Oliver was invited to board at the home of Joseph Smith Sr. Here he heard of the miraculous story of their son. He made his way to Harmony to meet the Prophet Joseph Smith, who recognized him as the assistant the Lord had promised for the translation. On Tuesday, 7 April, they commenced the work of translation in earnest."To me the most exciting miracle in the bringing forth of the Book of Mormon happened during the next 85 days. The complete book was translated from a then-unknown language into English. This is no common, simple book. Someone has figured out that it covers 1,000 years of colonization in which 54 chapters deal with war, 21 are historical, 55 are on visions and prophecies, 71 on doctrines and exhortations, 17 on missionary work, and 21 on the mission of the Savior, for a total of 239 chapters." Birthday Bashes

Karens 36th Birthday Desk with University of Phoenix, Phoenix Arizona, on Friday 07/03 from the Heavyweight Team.

I work with over 300 people but specifically I work with a great group of 12 including the boss.

I took Thursday 07/02 off so that we could move and when I came in to get paid 2 1/2 times the normal pay on Friday, my desk looked like this because tomorrow 07/04 it is my birthday and the entire team well, needless to say, decorated my desk.

I love it actually. I'm going to leave the balloons as long as I can and I'm not taking off the graffiti :o)

Memorie Lane

Can you believe that the guy on the right is my dad? He still actually looks the same just wider in every way! This was taken on the mission in Japan oh so many years ago. I'll let him tell ya!
Whose the due with my dad? Nobody knows!
We won't even go here...I'll let him fill in the blanks on when this picture was taken from Kahuku High School, in Hawaii. He seriously really does look like a Nihipali...wow, I guess that is because, well, he is one!

I was actually able to be there too so I'll post my pictures there later when I get them from my friend Tamie.Enjoy. The Garden

The West side Wicke 1st ear of corn. We know, we know, it is still a baby, but none the less, it is a corn!
Our zucchini! I couldn't believe it. The plants are growing all over the backyard and taking over the corn.
Here is the zucchini that you see in the picture above! I had Nathan cut it so that we could use it for our French scallop cuisine! Granted we only cut the small one and didn't even cut half of it. Hello zucchini soup and bread!

This is our yellow banana squash! There are many growing just like that.

And no, it is not the Michael McCean Musical.

Happy Mothers Day

This is a hard day for me, but also a joyous one. I've had time with this day for the past 15 years of my life but then again, it has been the most fulfilling. I don't need to go in to any great details and I won't but I just need to let every mother out there know that they are doing a fantastic job. Sometimes, you mothers think that your kids are never going to learn, they are never "going to get it", they are not going to be strong in the gospel and that one phrase that I have heard a lot of, "what did I do wrong?". Well, mothers, that is probably not what your Heavenly Father wants you to think and I want to let you know that you know that you are loved, wanted, cared for (physically, temporally, spiritually and everything else) and needed.

Your roles as mothers, sisters, aunts, grandmas, great grandmas, friends, cousins, wives and divine daughters of God change lives, help in changing attitudes, educate the weak and feeble and bless the lives that you come in contact with. God will continue to inspire you to fulfill your role as a woman so that his children will be blessed in this earth life.

I, am not one to speak on mothers as I am childless at my old age, however, I know that God has in store for me something exciting and something that I can not comprehend at this time nor will I ever be able to understand. I do know that he has placed women in my life so that I can learn from them, understand their ideas, learn to appreciate life and how to use their examples to raise my family...OK, remember that I don't have kids, but I do have a spouse and a dog and all of the lessons help with both! :o)

I need to get ready for church. Nathan bought me a NANO for mothers day and I've been playing with it all day and haven't even showered yet for church :o) Luckily, I already read my scriptures and am prepared in that manner. I even made waffles for breakfast, what is up with that? I thought that I was supposed to take the day off!

I love Lucy

For the past couple of weeks I've been entertaining myself with the I Love Lucy series while Nathan does homework and studies. I just bring 4-5 dvd's in the room and plop them in my computer (like I'm doing now) and just crack up, do some work for work (yes, work away from work and I don't get paid for it, which sucks, but oh well, I'm only #1 once again).

Anyways, I laugh and then laugh some more because some of what happens on the show I can see happening in our family. I'm cracking up and then Nathan comes in to see what all of the commotion is about and then he ends up finishing the episode with me!

What is hilarious is how quick the episodes really are. They are about 15-22 minutes in length. Forget the commercials, it is great to not have them.

I can't wait until I can afford a DVR and other fancy stuff so that I can watch it anywhere.

Well, other than that, the West side Wickes are fine. Nathans garden is growing like a weed and it looks awesome. I'll take pictures in a few days and post them at that time. Our battery for the camera died so I had to revive it!

Work is busy, I am still #1 for the department. I just told Nathan the other day that even though being #1 is awesome, it gets lonely sitting at the top. Overtime just began this last Saturday so I've already begun. I'm already tired of work of our busy season and it hasn't even started yet :o)

Nathan is half way finished with his MAED/CI program and we are so excited. He is getting ready to take the AEPA exam for educators and to complete 3 Arizona needed courses for teacher certification. Everything will be done by the end of June and we are so excited. School is getting ready to end for Nathan for the summer so substituting will end shortly so he can study for his needed classes.

I'll be going to Las Vegas, St George and Cedar City for Memorial Weekend to visit family. I'll drive up. I was going to take Kale but my aunt said that he has to stay outside and I can't do that. I'll feel so guilty if I leave him out there.

Nathan will take Kale with him this weekend to the Father and Sons outing for the ward so he'll be able to run around outdoors for a couple of days.

Nursery is going fabulous. Those little sweet spirits are so wonderful and hilarious. We talk about them every so often and I think about them a lot! I like to do the lessons and play games with them and sing songs. I have laminated some pictures after coloring them that go with the songs that we sing. It is quite entertaining!

I need to get some sleep. I have LONG days at work.

Love everyone,

Karen

Isn't technology awesome?

I have downloaded general conference to an MP3 that Nathan has and I am able to take it to work and the gym and anywhere else that I want to listen to the Lords words through his prophets and apostles and block out the world and their nonsense words. It is awesome how much technology changes our lives and can edify all of Gods children.

Isn't it totally sad that there are some of Gods children too that use it to their destructive advantage as well?

I watched a couple of YOUTUBE videos this morning on the Bible and another on the Temple and as you know, there is a place that one can post a comment. I watch the video and am totally uplifted by the spirit and am reminded of the need of temples on earth and the greatness and awesomeness of the Bible. As I read through some of the comments, I noticed that there was a comment from someone that lacks truth and understanding. That person swore in their post. As soon as I read it, the spirit left my heart because I felt so bad that they didn't understand what the video was trying to say and that they were rejecting the spirit of a loving Heavenly Father who was trying to touch them and teach them that they are loved, that they are needed and that they are a daughter/son of God.

I told Nathan today after I watched them that it seems to me that those who are the most bitter against the church are those who once have been in tune with the spirit and who once had a testimony. It seems like those who are not members will actually defend those they know and will step up to the plate if someone begins to go off on a tangent. Just like the scriptures say, that those who have once been in tune (like the Nefitas & Lamenitas) and know the truth will be the ones that will criticize it the most and try to destroy it the hardest.

Nathan and I thought, "well, if they don't like it, why don't they just leave it alone". If you see a dead animal on the side of the road, do you stop your car, look at it and stay there and suck up the stench, the view and hold on to picture you see? I don't think so. I think you'd go away and stay away.

If you are in the ocean and see a shark, do you stay there or do you leave and never go back and leave it alone? I wouldn't go back. It doesn't make sense to and it doesn't make the situation any better.

Oh well. Thank goodness that the Lord loves all of us. I pray that those people who don't know about the Gospel will one day learn and will one day pray to the loving God and know that he will answer their pray. That answer will come in a number of ways, such as a peace in their heart and mind, a phone call from a friend that is a member, a knock on the door by missionaries, a member neighbor inviting them to church or church sponsored activity. That one person will watch a video (technology), see a commercial on TV, talk to a coworker about the church or something and then they will be taught by the Holy Ghost to act upon that interaction and follow it.

I know this to be true. I know that this is the way that my Heavenly Father communicates with me. I know that my Savior loves me and through him, I'll return to my Father. I can't wait. This life has its beautiful and hard times and they are so well worth it.

Water Aerobics, it is official

OK, this is really weird...I had applied to teach water aerobics at the YMCA BUT nobody got back with the director to be a reference for me so I was going to throw in the towel and actually cancel the membership. OK, well, today, I'm at the gym and Evelyn says, hey Karen, in a couple of weeks we'll be training are you still up for it? I told her Heck yeah, I thought that it was a NO GO because nobody had gotten back to me so I was going to forget the whole thing!
Amazing. I'm so excited. I need to get some awesome music so I need to ask someone at church or work to get me some SWWEEETT music for the official water aerobics instructor!

Needless to say, I don't have to cancel my membership at the gym, it is just now FREE!

Have a great weekend.

And how do you get such a testimony?

I am listening to conference here at work. I couldn't help but be taken by Elder Ballards talk and read it as he spoke. This section really made me think about what we do in this life and how people try to find peace in their lives. Elder Ballard says that it comes through the following:

Well, there’s no new technology for that, nor will there ever be. You cannot do a Google search to gain a testimony. You can’t text message faith. You gain a vibrant, life-changing testimony today the same way it has always been done. The process hasn’t been changed. It comes through desire, study, prayer, obedience, and service. That is why the teachings of prophets and apostles, past and present, are as relevant to your life today as they ever have been.

More pictures

Here are a few other pictures

This is of Page High School right outside the north side of the campus

Nathan and I have concluded that we'll be doing the raft trip some day and that it would be BLAST. This picture is taken from the bridge above

This picture was taken from the HS north side of campus looking out as the sun was setting.
It was so cold (anything under 70 degrees for Karen is cold) and it was Easter and just so beautiful. I was out walking Kale again while Nathan was studying.

This was of the huge land mass just south of Page and I think just south of Flagstaff as we were on our way home back to Phoenix. Obviously Nathan took this picture. Kale loved the longs walks too.

Page Arizona

Here are a few pictures of me while I waited for Nathan to finish his interviews with Page School District over Easter Weekend
Karen, Kale and Glen Canyon Dam
Nathan was back at the hotel studying
Beautiful shot of the other side of Glen Canyon Dam

This is what happens when you take a dog on a trip and make him ride in the car 4-4 1/2 hrs
He would not move his nose off the bag and Nathans clothes. It was hilarious. This is how he was the entire trip home. He was pooped!
Some other pictures will be coming soon so that you can see the school district and school that Nathan interviewed with.

Hillbilly Mirror Humor

After living in the remote wilderness of West Virginia all his life, an old hillbilly decided it was time to visit the big city. In one of the stores he picks up a mirror and looks in it. Not ever having seen one before, he remarked at the image staring back at him,'How about that! Here's a picture of my daddy.'He bought the mirror thinking it was a picture of his daddy, but on the way home he remembered his wife didn't like his father, so he hung it in the barn, and every morning before leaving for the fields, he would go there and look at it.His wife began to get suspicious of these many trips to the barn. One day after her husband left, she searched the barn and found the mirror. As she looked into the glass, she fumed, 'So that's the ugly biddy he's runnin' around with.'

How bad can it really get?

Need I say more?
Hilarious!

Awesome General Conference

I know that I haven't written in a while and I haven't had really anything to say. It seems like everything has been tied together recently. It is amazing what happens to time when you keep busy and do what you are asked and supposed to do.

General Conference was fabulous. I started it off actually a week before by being involved with the Young Womans Conference. That was fabulous. The incorporated the 8th YW thing, Virtue. The talks were awesome, they were uplifting and I felt the spirit very strong. Then, Pres Monson spoke on Courage and what we can do to take hold of it and move forward and it tied very sweetly in to the new motto, Virtue.

Nathan was able to help Ben a few times this week with his newly designed and beautifully landscaped front hard. They laid sod (grass) and it looks awesome. I've had the privilege to work and get some OT with it too so that was nice.

I had to give Kale a bath something terrible because he laid in the dirt at Bens, got wet and he was just a huge ball of clumped hair. It was gross and I didn't like to pet him because he was so dirty. He didn't care for it to much, he kept his nose in the corner the entire time but he did like the water spraying on his belly...he appreciated that.

Conference was fabulous. I learned that it is what I do with my fellow brothers and sisters, members or non that will make or break me. I need to serve them, be an example to them, share my thoughts and feelings to them about the Gospel and the Savior and let them make their own choices about what they want to do in this life, accept it or reject it. I also learned that I need to be careful with what little money Heavenly Father gives me. I can spend it unwisely and lose TONS of blessings or I can spend it on the bare necessities and share with others and be richly blessed.

I also had to reevaluate myself and my home, is my home as the temple is? Is it quite, is it calm, does the spirit dwell there with me and my family? Does the Savior walk around in my home as he walks in each of the temples that dot the earth? Is my home clean physically and spiritually where the purest person ever, Jesus Christ can dwell there? I have been thinking about that since I heard that talk. I wonder to myself if I am worthy enough to have him there with me and my family while I am at home or even while I am out and about being involved with life, work, gym, church and other activities. I wonder if Kale knows any different as well. Are my television shows clean enough, do I have a picture of the prophet on the wall, is there a picture of the temple, are my scriptures where I can access them easily and do I have a serene place where I can go if I need to go on bended knees to thank Heavenly Father for ALL that he has given me.

I think that this talk was the one that knocked Karen over. There were TONS of other great and inspiring ones, but this is the one that was given to inspire and uplift me the most.

I can't wait for the Ensign to come out. I'll have to pick up a 2nd one as Nathan and I fight over it and hide it so the other can't find it. I also love to listen to the talks while at the gym so I'll have Nathan add it to the MP3 and also my shuffle.

Monday was a terrible day at work, all I wanted to do was go home and suck up more of General Conference. It was like I realized that there are crazy people in this world and now I have to be a part of them. It was like GC suggested, serve others even no matter what and all will be blessed. I don't know if the blessings came that day or not or if they are still in the works, but wow, it was a LONG day.

We had a wonderful dinner with friends at Traci Astles home. There were friends that we hadn't seen in a long time. Babies are growing and everyone is happy. It was wonderful.

Saturday afternoon was fabulous too. We left right after GC and went to Mesa so that I could take Collette to Desert Book Womans Night! It was a lot of fun. She was totally excited that there was free stuff, there were treats (free again) and that there were discounts on everything in the store. Not only that, but we each got in the mail that day $10 discount card so of course, we used that too. We both bought a crock pot cook book and we were so excited. I've got to try it ASAP and feed the hubby. I usually find things that he doesn't like so I feel like an idiot! He is definitely gringo because he likes things that I never would eat but my MOM would!

Collette and I met her mom at Desert Book in Mesa and then left about 6, barely made it to Costco to pick up some pizzas and take them back to Bens to cook them and feed Darwin, Ben and Nathan when they got back from conference. They all raved about how wonderful it was and how awesome each speaker brought the spirit and uplifted them.

We watched Friday Night Lights which was OK, I've seen better HS sport movies, it isn't at the top of my exciting list.

I love life. It gets hard sometimes, it gets tough, but you know, dang it, it happens. I love to breathe, I don't care to much to sweat while I work out, actually I hate it but I do it anyways, I love to read the scriptures and come home to my house. I actually, seriously enjoy my job. I work with some wonderful educators across the country, don't get me wrong, there are some real winners out there, but I have to say that the majority of them are fabulous!

I love my calling in nursery. I have missed my little kids and can't wait to see them on Sunday!

Love,

Karen

White rose

Can I just say that March 2009 has flown by. I look back and don't really know where March has gone. I know that my sister and brother had birthdays and I know that I worked and taught nursery on Sundays but other than than, I can't tell you what I did.

Nathan is another class down so, he is exactly 1/2 way finished with his program. I'm telling you, I can't keep up with time.

I know that March brought the flu to Karen and it wasn't very pleasant. I went to see a new baby 2 different times and could not hold him because I felt terrible and didn't want to be the culprit and get babies sick.

I know that I worked hard this month because I am leading the entire division at work with 85+ students (teachers) that are taking a class, 2 or 3. The normal for this time of year is only 40. All I can say is, is that my Heavenly Father has been with me the entire time because he keeps making it easy and giving me strength and health to be able to work, do my calling, be a wife to Nathan (ask him if it I'm a good wife, because I sometimes don't think so) and be a friend.

I've also become so hooked to FB that I forget to blog. My blog is like my journal for me to remind me of what I've done, how I feel, where I've been and so forth. FB on the other hand is to keep up with people that I know. If I don't know them or don't want to be in contact with someone, I won't accept it. If I feel a void or darkness, I won't accept it either so it helps me stay away from things and attitudes that I don't want to join in on.

I know that the Lord loves me, I never doubt it but I do forget to give gratitude to him for it. I know that the atonement works because I have used it and choose to continue to have it in my life. I know that the Savior suffered for me while in the Garden and then hung on the cross so that I wouldn't have to do it. I also know that he rose 3 days later because he loves me so much that he wants me to return back to my Heavenly Father one day.

Now, to the topic of children. I have been asked lately at work and other places why I don't have any children. I tell them jokingly that I don't have them because their mother is to selfish to have them and Heavenly Father isn't ready to give them to me yet because of that. I have thought about that response and I have a need to change it...Nathan and I don't have them yet because these sweet spirits that Heavenly Father send to earth are WAY to PERFECT to send them to such crazy, selfish and unorganized parents. So, from this moment on, I'm changing my answer :o)

I also just learned of what a Karen is. It is a marker on a trail when one hikes so that they don't get lost. It is a pile of rocks that are stacked 3-4 high so that others can see it to know to continue and they stay on the path. I was VERY humbled to hear that tonight as that is my name and I now need to live up to that. My patriarchal blessing talks of being being an emissary and example and to follow and have the priesthood in my home. Ironically, to the world, the definition of Karen is to be pure and clean. I guess my name is to loved and cherished. I haven't really liked my name because it just seemed so old lady like. I know have a new love for it and a new appreciation for my parents and their wisdom for giving me this name.

I love president Monson! He is speaking now and is asking us to be courageous and to be happy to overcome trials because we'll be happy. The commandments of the Lord are not negotiable and that we can not assume that they are suggestions but actual commandments to help us keep proper perspective and to live a righteous life!

Repentance will allow me to become closer to the Savior and through the Savior, he'll carry me to the Father. What a wonderful thought and promise, stay clean, be clean, no gossip, no impure thoughts, have courage to be chaste and virtuous.

You had to have seen the conference to understand the white rose!

New Baby

Nathan and I went to Mesa again to visit the family and some friends and so here in Nathan with baby Lincoln. What a cute picture. He started to cry as mom had run to Hobby Lobby with Grif and Logan for about an hour.
I am still not feeling up to par yet to hold any babies. I don't want to get them sick I'm still the picture taker. I know that some Wickes will be visiting within the next couple of weeks and we're excited to see them.

I just got off the phone with the fitness director of the YMCA where I go every week and she said that the training for me to be able to teach water aerobics is in process. It is about 80% done. I am so excited...I get to teach my own class on Wednesdays and Fridays. I get to schedule my own class, my own music and my own routines!! Anyone wanna jump in the pool with me?
That brings me to my next subject, I worked really hard to clean the pool at the house, I cleaned the filters, I took the time to clean out the baskets and add chlorine to the bucket also, all of this being done on Saturday. I spent all morning doing it....AND then...lolololol, Sunday afternoon comes around and the wind blows oh like 40 miles an hour and now the entire pool is full of dirt, leaves, rocks, a few gross things of garbage (that I had to take out on Sunday)...go ahead and laugh, I won't smite anyone with the pool cleaning brush. I was so angry at myself for doing it and then mad at the stupid wind, like the wind is going to change its mind and not blow anymore...so, this week, I'm going to have to do it ALL over again! You've got to love the weather.
Nursery is as awesome as ever. It is just Nathan and myself now. They took the 3rd teacher and moved her over to primary to teach a class because a family moved and they needed another teacher. I am so glad that I didn't get taken out...I love nursery. It is so exciting and energizing. I learned that Kids are awesome and that they are a handful especially when you get them all riled up like I did and then I couldn't get them to calm down. I realized that kids are great for those who have them and I'm glad that I'm not one of them yet because those riled up kids went home with mom and dad and I went home to a calm house! We talked about family prayer and we colored and ran around the room (I was actually trying to get them to get rid of some energy but that backfired :o) ).
Nathans surgery went well. He is fine and still kicking and talking in his sleep so I've kicked him out and moved him to the other bedroom :o) Nah, just kidding...he is sleeping in the other room though because the bed is better for his back which is fine because I won't wake up with a black eye and a puncture wounds.
Gotta go...I'm at work. Have a lovely week and I'll get back online next week too with new pictures and something new to say, which is hard to do sometimes.

Feeling the blues

I have been feeling under the weather since Wednesday. I didn't work on Thursday, my boss sent me home early Wednesday afternoon because a coworker and myself couldn't talk or even keep our eyes open. I worked Friday, which was really dumb because I ended up coming home 3 hrs early anyways. Nathan and I missed the multi stake dance that is annual in the west valley, again. We didn't go last year either for some reason.

I can't just stay home and do nothing so of course, I dope myself up on medicine and get to work with Nathan on his garden that he wanted to put together. We, oh, let me clarify this, Nathan planted, corn, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and we will be adding green onions, pumpkin and green beans. It sounds like a lot and it is despite our yard. We don't have a lot of space, but then again we do.

I am still not feeling well, I don't sleep well, I can't breathe and when I cough my throat is being cut by glass, when I sneeze, everything that is liquified in my body wants to come out of my nose, my head is killing me and it is throbbing like an ice pick is being jabbed in my temples, my eyes hurt. My sides hurt from coughing so much and hard. It is crazy. My skin is dry like desert dust and my face is breaking out like I'm 15 years old again.

Can I get a facial? Will someone please pay for a day at the spa? I need it.

I'm #1 in my division so now I am being asked to do all kinds of things again at work. They want me to teach people who to do their job. What the heck? They wouldn't have a job if they didn't know how to already do it. What is their manager there for? I don't get paid for that. Pay me and I'll consider it. I did apply for a training position and they turned me down, not only once, but at least 4 times. What the heck? Oh well...things happen for a reason. I'll just keep making the money to provide for my family! That is what counts right now, at this time.

For as gross as I feel, I need to quit being chatty, I have to go visiting teaching.

Bye.

Not much happening

I haven't been able to blog for the past week or so because out of the three computers that we have at home only Nathans works and I don't want to use his computer and break it if something is not right because of something that I am doing on my computers, soooo....I am just now getting a chance to say HI to the rest of the world.

Nathan just finished his STATs class and LOVED it. Yes, you read right, he thoroughly enjoyed it. It was only a 4 week class so it went VERY quickly.

His 5th class will be starting tomorrow and he is so excited. We have talked a lot about him getting certified and teaching at the high school level. He is seriously loving his program and is learning a ton. One of the best things that I can say that he is learning is that education is either changing or never going to change. There is so much politics and does & don'ts that are with education that nobody knows where to go, what to do, why to do it and when it needs to be done; the worst thing, nobody seems to know HOW. All I know is that every student being young or old knows has their own learning style and that everyone should be humble enough to adapt and to make changes and face change. It is quite interesting.

We are still in nursery and I pray every Sunday that they don't take me out. I love it. I like playing with the kids, I enjoy laughing with them and loving them and giving them loves and discipline at the same time.

We attended Laurels awesome baby shower last night too. There was quite a few people there and it was really fun. I was so tired and she was having so much fun with her friends that I got up and told Collette good bye and left and so we went home. Nathan drove out and met me at work w/ Ka'le and then we drove out together. It was funny because all of the Wicke boys were at the Wicke home and all of the "girls" were down the street at Shilos' home. It was fun.

I am very busy here at work. I have been busy for the past 4 years, so that is nothing new. I am coming up on my 4 years of being with my specialized division for the University of Phoenix. It is pretty exciting because out of the 9 of us that started on the same day, 3 of us are still here. Its pretty cool and we are all still good friends/coworkers. I meet awesome, new people every day and its fun. It is all about you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours!

Pampered Chef on the other hand, isn't going so well. I am frustrated with it because I have to do all of my own: marketing, networking, meetings, parties, calling, sales, delivery and administrative stuff. If I had someone to do all of that, heck, I'd do really well! I'll soon put in a party and hopefully it'll take off again; well, that is the plan at least :o)

I am at work, so I need to get to work!

National Singles Awareness Day?

I found it kind of funny that the new Valentines Day "politically correct" phrase for this fun, simple day is now called National Singles Awareness Day. Why would a single person want to recognize that and make it a big deal? Why would someone in a relationship or married or whatever rub it in ones face that is single that they don't have anyone?

Granted, we should love everyone no matter race, creed, color, religion or whatever case it is. I like to think that we are old fashion so I like the good ol' Valentines Day.

So, to all who love, like to be loved and are loved,

Happy Valentines Day!

Cold Weather Cold Hearts

I know that Arizona has been known to have some pretty hot weather, however, this winter it has been pretty cold. It has gotten to the point that even Nathan turned on the heater. Yes, you read correctly, Nathan turned on the heater. I would rather freeze and put on clothes and save the money and not use the heater. He got so cold a couple of months ago that he turned on the heater to 66 degrees and so when it hits that cold, it kicks on. The funny part about it, is that it is only 66 degrees and it blows cold air. Now, laugh at that.

Don't get me wrong, the weather has been cold, but it has been wonderful. The Lord knows that this desert needs water so has blessed the northern part of Arizona with A LOT of snow and the valley here with a lot of rain. It has been wonderful. Ka'le the dog, on the other hand probably doesn't think that it is wonderful because he won't go out and do his puppy business because 1, the ground is wet and 2, his paws will get wet...so, he'll hold it until I go and get drenched in the rain and go with him. What are moms for?

Nathan and I watched Dateline this week and watched the story about the single mother who had octuplets. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/29129331#29129331 is the link where you can watch what she had to say. I'll be the first to admit that I thought that she is a "quack" and selfish, however, watching the show, she is a little distorted but in the realm of things, she is following what the prophets say to do. Get married, have children and get an education. Her marriage failed prior to her having all of these babies, she started school when she only had a few children and then she kept having them and attending graduate school at the same time. Granted, she has to do this all on her own, BUT she is doing what the Lord has said, don't procrastinate your family for the goods of the world. Don't procrastinate your education either because you'll need it. Well, she now has 14 children and more than ever needs to have moral support rather than people hating her. I understand the $$ thing, I'm not blind to the financial side of her decision but it is a little to late to worry about it. Now is where she needs our help even more. A few of her children are special needs which means that she needs additional help and support. 8 babies at one time with 6 more that are all under the age of 6 at this point.

I know that if she were a member of the church, she would be advised by a bishop, stake president and the first presidency to do something else with the children as she is a single mom, I'll let you figure that out. I know that if she were a member of relief society, she would be well taken care of. Everyone would step up to the plate and assist her. That is the beauty of the gospel.

I also feel that she was given these children from the Lord for 2 purposes, 1- to bless her life and give these 14 mortals a body and 2- to give the rest of the world the opportunity to serve one another and bless the lives of others. Now, it is up to me and to us to work with her and not against her.

I'm not judging her. I can't judge her, that is not my place. People are so quick to judge and not help it is rediculous.

Nathan is doing awesome with schooling and just loving it. He is learning TONS and is so excited to see his own progression. We are looking for educational work for the summer as that will creep up on is quicker than we want to admit.

Work for me is going well. I still am in the top 5 and 3% of my division and that is nice. It has slowed down but I have built a pipeline and that is wonderful.

I am at work and need to get to work.

Awesome talk

I know that I keep sending this, but I love this talk. Every time I listen to it and watch it I cry and learn something more about myself and the Love that Heavenly Father has for me.

Go Arizzona Cardinals!

These were our tickets and parking pass to park right by the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

Uncle Jeff let us have them. He is awesome. If I am not mistaken, he raffled off the rest of the season tickets to his schools and community!

Nathan and I got to go to the 1st Preseason Arizona Cardinal 2008-09 game. Now look where they are; Tamp Bay, FL for Superbowl XLIII.

Miracles

It has been awhile and that doesn't matter because here I am writing something really quickly.

I listened to a BYU-Hawaii Devotional talk this past week online and it was wonderful. Ironically, the sister who gave the talk looked my mom...it was like watching her with a completely different personality and outlook on things.

Anyways...her talk was on miracles and recognizing them. Sometimes we go through life thinking that we do each day by ourselves and that God doesn't have a hand in any of it. She gave some wonderful examples of how we can recognize Gods hand in our daily lives and the "small miracles" that take place.

Here are just a few and some that I have added to the list because it makes sense:

brushing my teeth...miracle, some people don't have arms and hands to do that driving to work...miracle, that I have a job to pay for the car to get to work and then to make the money to get the home that I have which I was given by God, which is a miracle because it took forever to get. Miracle, warm or cool clothes (depending on the climate)...at least I have clothes to wear and hand me downs that people can't or won't wear...this is a miracle...some people in the world don't have clothes and if they do, they wear the same thing every day and go naked to wash it and clean it. Miracle...Joseph Smith, Jr prayed and asked God the Father for truth...when was the last time that you asked for truth?Miracle...the atonement belongs to EVERYONE...God just didn't select a few to receive it...he provided a Savior for the everyone. Miracle...someone who knows how to at least play a few notes on the violin and know how to record and do recording improvs and do it now...and be in the right place at the right time at the exact moment that it is needed and prayers being answered. Miracle...people actually like people and are nice to one another.

I just thought that I'd share this with ya to remember that 1, life is what it is and 2, Heavenly Father throws little miracles in our laps every day and we need to stop and thank him for them even when we think that they are not. Miracles come to us every day and it is our responsibility to share them, recognize them and accept them.

Love,

Karen
